Diamond was the game I purchased, as Pokemon had for the first time got internet functionality and we all had different versions of the game between us, no one really thought it mattered too much what version you had as the potential for trading was huge. Platinum - I was at Uni at the time and got back in to Pokemon with some friends, we ensured we all purchased different versions of the games for easy trading.
